SWIM WALES OPEN WATER MEET 2021
19th June - Llandegfedd Lake, Pontypool, Wales
Well, its been a long time coming, but how amazing is it to see a couple of our members back out there competing in their first competitive swims of the 2020-21 season.
Tess Tinsley and Lola Wheeler both attended the Swim Wales Open Water Meet this weekend which also incorporated the British Junior Team selection trials.
Both girls swam the 5km course at LLandegffed Lake, with Tess competing in the 15yr old category and Lola in the 14yr old. Swimmers competed from across the nation and both girls faced some tough competition, but this did not phase them. Just racing in open water competitions is challenge enough to anyone however both girls finished the race with great times, Tess having a good solid swim and completing the 5km in 1 hour 19 minutes. Lola suffered with a nosebleed part way round the course, but didn't let this stop her and soldiered on to finish in a fantastic 6th place in the 14yr old age group and a time of 1 hour 13 minutes. Only one person from each age group is picked to represent GB at these trials, so although neither girl has been selected it has been a great start to getting back into their competitive swimming, huge well done to both.
2020 SELECTION FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
CONGRATULATIONS to Serenity Bowen on being selected to attend the Regional Development Camp 2020.
A total of 36 swimmers aged 12 years at 31st December 2020 have been selected based on on their Regional ranking on swims from 1st September 2019 to 1st March 2020.
Due to the current circumstances, this year will only consist of a one day virtual camp led by coaches from across the Midlands.
Well done Serenity, great achievement for 2020.
2020 SELECTIONS FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
CONGRATULATIONS to both Lola Wheeler and Oliver Greaves on being selected to attend the Swim England Swimming National Development Programme for 2020!
The National Development Programme is the third step on the Swim England Extended Talent Pathway – but the first on the national framework.
The 13 and 14-year-olds picked will be expected to join a day of online workshops on either 3 or 4 October covering ‘Loving Race Day’, sleep recovery and injury prevention.
A dry land conditioning session will also emphasise mobility and stability to enhance the anti-rotational / rotational strokes and streamlining.
All the swimmers were chosen using the new adjusted selection guidelines that have been introduced for the 2020-21 season because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Due to the pandemic, there will be no pool camps in 2020 and dry land activity will be carried out online.
It is hoped that pool activity may resume in 2021, depending on timing and the ability to host safely.
